Show 157 Hugh talks to America’s leading political analyst and historian, Michael Barone, about his new book, Our First Revolution: The Remarkable British Upheaval That Inspired America’s Founding Fathers. 24 min 5.6MB

About this book- The ideals of freedom and individual rights that inspired America’s Founding Fathers did not spring from a vacuum. Along with many other defining principles of our national character, they can be traced directly back to one of the most pivotal events in British history—the late-seventeenth-century uprising known as the Glorious Revolution.
In a work of popular history that stands with recent favorites such as David McCullough’s 1776 and Joseph J. Ellis’s Founding Brothers, Michael Barone brings the story of this unlikely and largely bloodless revolt to American readers and reveals that, without the Glorious Revolution, the American Revolution may never have happened.

Unfolding in 1688–1689, Britain’s Glorious Revolution resulted in the hallmarks of representative government, guaranteed liberties, the foundations of global capitalism, and a foreign policy of opposing aggressive foreign powers. But as Barone shows, there was nothing inevitable about the Glorious Revolution. It sprang from the character of the English people and depended on the talents, audacity, and good luck of two men: William of Orange (later William III of England), who launched history’s last successful cross-channel inva sion, and John Churchill, an ancestor of Winston, who commanded the forces of the deposed James II but crossed over to support William one fateful November night.

The story of the Glorious Revolution is a rich and riveting saga of palace intrigue, loyalty and shocking betrayal, and bold political and military strategizing. With narrative drive, a sure command of historical events, and unforgettable portraits of kings, queens, soldiers, parliamentarians, and a large cast of full-blooded characters, Barone takes an episode that has fallen into unjustified obscurity and restores it to the prominence it deserves. Especially now, as we face enemies who wish to rid the world of the lasting legacies of the Glorious Revolution—democracy, individual rights, and capitalism among them—it is vitally important that we understand the origins of these blessings.

Show 156 Dennis Prager talks to Kenneth Timmerman, journalist and best selling author. In 2006 he was nominated of the Nobel Peace Prize for his groundbreaking reporting on Irans nuclear weapons program. His latest book is Shadow Warriors: The Untold Story of Traitors, Saboteurs, and the Party of Surrender  -An alarming but necessary book that reads like a thriller. By raising uncomfortable questions, Ken Timmerman has performed a significant public service.-Michael Medved, nationally syndicated talk radio host.
Some have called it the CIA’s greatest covert operation of all time.
It is an intelligence war conducted behind the scenes, aimed at confusing, misleading, and ultimately defeating the enemy. The goal is nothing less than toppling the regime in power. A network of agents has been planted at key crossroads of power, stealing secrets, planting disinformation, and cooking intelligence. The plan involves sophisticated political sabotage operations that bring in opposition forces who can challenge the regime openly, in a way the CIA cannot. The scope is breathtaking.
Who is the target of this vast, sophisticated CIA operation? Not the mullahs in Tehran or North Korea’s power-mad Kim Jong Il; the target is America’s president, George W. Bush.
Drawing on exclusive information from senior government officials, intelligence operatives, and many others, investigative reporter Kenneth Timmerman provides the full, untold story of the sabotage that occurs behind the scenes at key government agencies like the CIA and State Department–and the profound effect it has on Americas ability to confront its most dangerous enemies. In Shadow Warriors, Timmerman brings to light the vast underground working to undercut our nations efforts to win the war on terror–revealing the when, where, how, and who for the first time. He also exposes the Democratic politicians who have sold out America’s national security for political gain.
In Shadow Warriors you’ll learn:
•How the CIA and State Department sabotaged the administration’s Iraq war plans from the start–sparking the insurgency in the process
•How a high-level State Department official gathered aides after Bush’s reelection to insist they owed no allegiance to the president or his policies
•How pre-war intelligence on Iraq was cooked–not by the Bush administration, but by its opponents
•How and why the shadow warriors have leaked details of virtually every covert U.S. intelligence tool used in the war on terror
•How the leaks have devastated our efforts to fight terrorism–such as when a key U.S. ally rebuffed the CIA directors request for assistance by saying, -You Americans can’t keep secrets-
•Why U.S. intelligence refused to examine important documents detailing the secret Iraqi networks that became the heart of the insurgency
•How newly discovered Iraqi government documents reveal the extent of Saddam Hussein’s ties to international terrorists and the truth about his WMD arsenal

Shadow Warriors shows that George W. Bush never got the first rule of Washington: People are policy. He allowed his political enemies to run roughshod over his administration. This insiders look at secret White House meetings, political backstabbing, and war-room summits is an eye-opening account of the mind-set that is crippling our effectiveness in Iraq and around the world. 7.9mb 34 min. Show 155 Michael Medved and Dennis Prager talks to Ronald Kessler, former Washington Post and Wall Street Journal investigative reporter and current chief Washington correspondent of NewsMax.com. His latest book is The Terrorist Watch: Inside the Desperate Race to Stop the Next Attack.16MB 71 min

 About This Book

“You make a mistake, there are dead people.?
—FBI Special Agent Art Cummings, head of international counterterrorism operations

Drawing on unprecedented access to FBI and CIA counterterrorism operatives, New York Times bestselling author Ronald Kessler presents the chilling story of terrorists’ relentless efforts to mount another devastating attack on the United States and of the heroic efforts being made to stop those plots.

Kessler takes you inside the war rooms of this battle—from the newly created National Counterterrorism Center to FBI headquarters, from the CIA to the National Security Agency, from the Pentagon to the Oval Of?ce—to explain why we have gone so long since 9/11 without a successful attack and to reveal the many close calls we never hear about. The race to stop the terrorists, Kessler shows, is more desperate than ever.

Based on exclusive interviews with FBI Director Robert Mueller, CIA Director Michael Hayden, White House Counterterrorism Chief Fran Townsend, and dozens of key intelligence operatives at all levels, The Terrorist Watch:

• tells the previously unreported story of how the United States helped thwart the 2006 London terrorist plot, broke up terrorist cells in Canada, and prevented numerous other attacks
• reveals how the CIA and FBI have rolled up more than 5,000 terrorists worldwide since 9/11
• provides a stunning insider’s account from the FBI agent
who spent eight months debriefing Saddam Hussein after his capture
• pinpoints press leaks that have resulted in CIA agents’ deaths, caused foreign countries to stop cooperating on key investigations, and even tipped off Osama bin Laden to U.S. surveillance
• destroys numerous media myths, such as the canard that the FBI and CIA still don’t cooperate on investigations
• discloses the truth about the number of U.S. mosques where imans preach jihad
• shows how the intelligence community has radically changed its mission—and how the media have misled the public about those changes

Never before has a journalist gained such access to the FBI, the CIA, the National Counterterrorism Center, and the other agencies that are doing the unheralded work of ?nding and capturing terrorists.

Ronald Kessler’s you-are-there narrative tells the real story of the war on terror and will transform the way you view the greatest problem of our age.For all of Michael Medveds shows go to https://www.michaelmedved.com/site to listen live for free or $4.95 per month to download all of his podcasts.- Highly recommended!  Download all of Dennis Pragers shows free at: http://www.townhall.com/talkradio/Show.aspx?RadioShowID=3

Show 152 Ann Coulter "Treason- Liberal Treachery From the cold war to the war on terrorism" Chapter 4 The indespensable Joe McCarthy.  Excellent book. Funny and Ferocious. A must have in your conservative library. To buy click here- Amazon- Treason from Ann Coulter. Audio book only $19.77  Rating 9 out of 10. 87 minutes 20MB From Amazon book description-

-Liberals loyalty to the United States is off-limits as a subject of political debate. Why is the relative patriotism of the two parties the only issue that is out of bounds for rational discussion?-

In a stunning follow-up to her number one bestseller Slander, leading conservative pundit Ann Coulter contends that liberals have been wrong on every foreign policy issue, from the fight against Communism at home and abroad, the Nixon and the Clinton presidencies, and the struggle with the Soviet empire right up to today’s war on terrorism. -Liberals have a preternatural gift for always striking a position on the side of treason,- says Coulter. -Everyone says liberals love America, too. No, they don’t.- From Truman to Kennedy to Carter to Clinton, America has contained, appeased, and retreated, often sacrificing America’s best interests and security. With the fate of the world in the balance, liberals should leave the defense of the nation to conservatives.

Reexamining the sixty-year history of the Cold War and beyond—including the career of Senator Joseph McCarthy, the Whittaker Chambers–Alger Hiss affair, Ronald Reagans challenge to Mikhail Gorbachev to “tear down this wall,? the Gulf War, and our present war on terrorism—Coulter reveals how liberals have been horribly wrong in all their political analyses and policy prescriptions. McCarthy, exonerated by the Venona Papers if not before, was basically right about Soviet agents working for the U.S. government. Hiss turned out to be a high-ranking Soviet spy (who consulted Roosevelt at Yalta). Reagan, ridiculed throughout his presidency, ended up winning the Cold War. And George W. Bush, also an object of ridicule, has performed exceptionally in responding to America’s newest threats at home and abroad.

Coulter, who in Slander exposed a liberal bias in today’s media, also examines how history, especially in the latter half of the twentieth century, has been written by liberals and, therefore, distorted by their perspective. Far from being irrelevant today, her clearheaded and piercing view of what we’ve been through informs us perfectly for challenges today and in the future.

With Slander, Ann Coulter became the most recognized and talked-about conservative intellectual of the year. Treason, in many ways an even more controversial and prescient book, will ignite impassioned political debate at one of the most crucial moments in our history.

Show 145 Day of Empire. Michael Medved interviews author Amy Chua. From the publisher- In a little over two centuries, America has grown from a regional power to a superpower, and to what is today called a hyperpower. But can America retain its position as the worlds dominant power, or has it already begun to decline?
Historians have debated the rise and fall of empires for centuries. To date, however, no one has studied the far rarer phenomenon of hyperpowers—those few societies that amassed such extraordinary military and economic might that they essentially dominated the world.
Now, in this sweeping history of globally dominant empires, bestselling author Amy Chua explains how hyperpowers rise and why they fall. In a series of brilliantly focused chapters, Chua examines history’s hyperpowers—Persia, Rome, Tang China, the Mongols, the Dutch, the British, and the United States—and reveals the reasons behind their success, as well as the roots of their ultimate demise.
Chua’s unprecedented study reveals a fascinating historical pattern. For all their differences, she argues, every one of these world-dominant powers was, at least by the standards of its time, extraordinarily pluralistic and tolerant. Each one succeeded by harnessing the skills and energies of individuals from very different backgrounds, and by attracting and exploiting highly talented groups that were excluded in other societies. Thus Rome allowed Africans, Spaniards, and Gauls alike to rise to the highest echelons of power, while the barbarian Mongols conquered their vast domains only because they practiced an ethnic and religious tolerance unheard of in their time. In contrast,
Nazi Germany and imperial Japan, while wielding great power, failed to attain global dominance as adirect result of their racial and religious intolerance.
But Chua also uncovers a great historical irony: in virtually every instance, multicultural tolerance eventually sowed the seeds of decline, and diversity became a liability, triggering conflict, hatred, and violence.
The United States is the quintessential example of a power that rose to global dominance through tolerance and diversity. The secret to America’s success has always been its unsurpassed ability to attract enterprising immigrants. Today, however, concerns about outsourcing and uncontrolled illegal immigration are producing a backlash against our tradition of cultural openness. Has America finally reached a tipping point? Have we gone too far in the direction of diversity and tolerance to maintain cohesion and unity? Will we be overtaken by rising powers like China, the EU or even India?
Chua shows why American power may have already exceeded its limits and why it may be in our interest to retreat from our go-it-alone approach and promote a new multilateralism in both domestic and foreign affairs.

Show142  Prude.  Hugh discusses what the culture is doing to the young girls of America with the author of the new book, Prude, Carol Platt Liebau.

Prude is an in-depth look at the forces telling young women that being sexy trumps intelligence and character every time. For those who aren't aware of just how sexualized teen-oriented fashion, reading, movies, television and music have become and why, it's a wake-up call. For parents who want their daughters to understand the physical, emotional and psychological dangers of giving too much, too soon, it puts all the facts at their fingertips. And for anyone who cares about the impact that teen sexuality has on America's economic and social life -- and believes it's time for a more wholesome teen culture -- it's a call to arms.

"I am going to make PRUDE required reading for all my listeners!"-- Dr. Laura Schlessinger, bestselling author

" If you are a mom or a dad, a grandmother or a grandfather, an aunt or an uncle, or a big sister or a big brother of a young girl about to enter or already in her teen years, you need to buy this book . . . This is the rarest of books -- one that could save a life. Liebau is surveying a culture that tells girls and teenage women to do everything they can to defeat themselves, to sell themselves short, to think of themselves first and sometimes only as sexual beings . . . With compelling specificity, Liebau lays out exactly how parents and all the other adults in the U.S. can take real-world steps to change the world that now works to limit girls . . . Read it. Pass it on. The life you save may be the one closest to you."-- Hugh Hewitt,

Adam Smith’s The Wealth of Nations might well be the most influential work of economics ever written, but it’s never been considered a laugh-riot. That could change, however, with this explication of Smith’s free-market masterpiece by conservative commentator and humorist P.J. O’Rourke. In On The Wealth of Nations, O’Rourke manages to accomplish a fourfold task that no one would have thought possible: (1) to explain all of Smith’s ideas - from the simple to the complex - clearly and concisely; (2) to show how those principles can help us understand - and solve - today’s economic social problems; (3) to use Smith’s evergreen wisdom as the jumping-off point for O’Rourke’s own biting social commentary; and (4) to keep you in stitches from beginning to end.  Show 139  Dennis talks to Bjorn Lomborg, adjunct professor at the Copenhagen Business School . His new book is Cool It: The Skeptical Environmentalist's Guide to Global Warming.

Former vice president Al Gore … excuse us, Oscar-winning documentarian, Nobel laureate, and shamelessly hypocritical mansion-dwelling, jet-setting energy pig Al Gore … says global warming is nothing short of a "planetary emergency" demanding elaborate and expensive actions that will cost hundreds of billions of dollars. But is the hysteria surrounding global warming rational? And would the solutions he has in mind make things better for mankind -- or worse? Now, in Cool It: The Skeptical Environmentalists Guide to Global Warming, noted environmental expert Bjorn Lomborg draws on extensive studies and analysis -- including the UN's most recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Report -- to debunk numerous popular myths that are causing people to panic (and Al Gore to win prizes).

Lomborg -- previously the author of the bestselling The Skeptical Environmentalist, and named one of Time magazines 100 most influential people in 2004 -- does believe that global warming is occurring, but not to the degree, or at the pace, that alarmists like Al Gore would have us believe. Nor are the consequences all bad -- in fact, some are, and will be, very good, not only for our species but for others. The key, he believes, is to assess the facts and approach whatever problems need to be addressed in a rational way -- which means not wasting all our energy and resources on Chicken Little hysteria when there are more pressing problems facing the world.

Cool It gives you the facts and documentation behind hundreds of "politically incorrect" revelations like these:

Sea levels will rise about one foot over the next century, according to the UNs 2007 IPCC report -- the same rise that has occurred worldwide since 1860. A 20-foot rise, such as the one seen in An Inconvenient Truth, is hypothetical at best

Global polar bear populations, contrary to environmentalists claims, are generally stable, and two populations around the Arctic Sea are actually growing. The most substantial drops in polar bear populations are a result of recreational hunting, not global warming

The recent increase in impact from hurricanes and storms has nothing to do with global warming and everything to do with the rising concentrations of population and infrastructure in coastal areas. The data available today does not support unequivocal claims that global warming is worsening storms

Though such global warming as may actually occur will mean more heat-related deaths -- about 40,000 more in the United States in 2050 -- there will also be 200,000 fewer cold deaths by then in the US.

The Kyoto Protocol is both impossibly ambitious and environmentally inconsequential. It would cost $180 billion a year for the rest of the century but would only postpone global warming by five years in 2100.

Show 137 If Democrats Had Any Brains, Theyd Be Republicans by Ann Coulter audio excerpt . Audio MP3. Yes it’s an offensive title but there is a story behind it. Give it a try. It is full of her funniest lines.

-Uttering lines that send liberals into paroxysms of rage, otherwise known as ‘citing facts,’ is the spice of life. When I see the hot spittle flying from their mouths and the veins bulging and pulsing above their eyes, well, that’s when I feel truly alive.-
So begins If Democrats Had Any Brains, Theyd Be Republicans, Ann Coulters funniest, most devastating, and, yes, most outrageous book to date.
Coulter has become the brightest star in the conservative firmament thanks to her razor-sharp reasoning and biting wit. Of course, practically any time she opens her mouth, liberal elites denounce Ann, insisting that -She’s gone too far!- and hopefully predicting that this time it will bring a crashing end to her career.
Now you can read all the quotes that have so outraged her enemies and so delighted her legions of fans. More than just the definitive collection of Coulterisms, If Democrats Had Any Brains, Theyd Be Republicans includes dozens of brand-new commentaries written by Coulter and hundreds of never-before-published quotations. This is Ann at her best, covering every topic from A to Z. Here you’ll read Coulter’s take on:
• Her politics: “As far as I’m concerned, I’m a middle-of-the-road moderate and the rest of you are crazy.?
• Hillary Clinton: “Hillary wants to be the first woman president, which would also make her the first woman in a Clinton administration to sit behind the desk in the Oval Office instead of under it.?
• The environment: “God gave us the earth. We have dominion over the plants, the animals, the trees. God said, ‘Earth is yours. Take it. Rape it. It’s yours.’?
• Religion: “It’s become increasingly difficult to distinguish the pronouncements of the Episcopal Church from the latest Madonna video.?
• Global warming: “The temperature of the planet has increased about one degree Fahrenheit in the last century. So imagine a summer afternoon when it’s 63 degrees and the next thing you know it’s . . . 64 degrees. Ahhhh!!!! Run for your lives, everybody! Women and children first!?
• Gun control: “Mass murderers apparently can’t read, since they are constantly shooting up ‘gun-free zones.’?

Show 136 Just Dumb Luck: American Entry into World War II. Audio book segment from Americans at War by Stephen E. Ambrose. This book is a collection of fifteen essays. Although many of the pieces in this collection focus on World War II, Ambrose also explores the Civil War ("Struggle for Vicksburg: The Battles and Siege that Decided the Civil War"). It is the only other selection that we would recommend from this work and is therefore not recommeded to buy. Renting it would be a better option. To purchase this book visit Amazon-Americans at War. Podcast rating is a 8 out of 10. 7MB and 31 minutes long.

Show135 Politically Incorrect Guide to Capitalism by Robert P. Murphy. Audio book disk 1 of 5.

The anti-capitalists are still with us, and how. Robert Murphy has decided to give them an in-your-face economics education that they won’t forget — ever.
His approach comes from years of teaching undergraduates and dealing with the most common errors. He also draws from his teaching experience at the Mises University to offer an Austrian perspective on economics.
He offers explanations and examples that are clear and compelling. Whats wrong with zoning? Murphy explains it. Isnt outsourcing destroying America? On the contrary says Murphy- it is a wonderful for Americans! Shouldnt the rich fork over in the name of social justice? Murphy says that this would make us all poorer.
Isnt the Fed protecting us against depressions and inflations? Precisely the opposite, he says: the Fed is causing economic instability.
In so many ways, this book is a product of the Mises Institute. Murphy learned his economics at the Mises University (while getting his PhD at New York University) and then began to teach at the Mises Institutes programs. He now serves as the headmaster of the Mises Institute online classroom.
This could be the most accessible and compelling introduction to free-market economics since Hazlitts Economics in One Lesson. Certainly economics has rarely been this fun! The socialists and Keynesian of the world will hate this book and make it a target of all their venom. But if they read it, they might learn something.
This book is sure to become a hot seller, and a major source of controversy on campuses. A previous book in this series landed on the New York Times bestseller list. How splendid to think that with this book, the Austrian perspective is receiving yet another boost in public life.
Some topics covered:

Why central planning has never worked and never will

How prices operate in a free market (and why socialist schemes like rent control always backfire)

How labor unions actually hurt workers more than they help them

Why increasing the minimum wage is always a bad idea

Why the free market is the best guard against racism

How capitalism will save the environment — and why socialist countries were the most polluted on earth

Raising taxes: why it is never “responsible?

Why no genuine advocate for the downtrodden could endorse the dehumanizing Welfare State

The single biggest myth underlying the publics support for government regulation of business

Antitrust suits: usually filed by firms that lose in free competition

How tariffs and other restrictions “protect? privileged workers but make other Americans poorer

The IMF and World Bank: why they dont help poor countries

Why the industrial revolution was the biggest boon for the middle class in human history

Plus: Are you a capitalist pig? Take the quiz and find out!
Breezy, witty, but always clear, precise, and elegantly reasoned, The Politically Incorrect Guide to Capitalism is a solid and entertaining guide to free market economics written from the perspective of the Austrian School.
Murphy deploys all his abundant talents here, and to spectacular effect.
