Show 105 Dennis Prager and Michael Medved interview Lee Harris author The Suicide of Reason Radical Islams Threat to the West.  From front book flap- Whether by choice or not, the West finds itself in a low-grade yet bitter war with Islamic fanaticism. It is a war the West is singularly ill-equipped to fight. The foe is resistant to any of the normal methods of resolution such as negotiation, economic sanctions, or conventional armed confrontation. To prevail, we must change our understanding of the conflict. The Suicide of Reason shows how modern liberal societies, whose political theories are born of the Enlightenment, are unfamiliar with the nature of mass fanaticism. The West, so accustomed to thinking of history as an inevitable progress toward enlightenment, can only think of fanaticism as a social pathology, a failure to modernize, rather than as what it is – a variety of social order that is not only fully viable in the modern world but that possesses weapons to which  the West is uniquely vulnerable. A governing philosophy based on reason, tolerance, consensus and deliberation cannot defend itself against a strategy of ruthless violence without being radically transformed- or worse, destroyed.

Extraordinarily original and thought-provoking, The Suicide of Reason explains the logic of fanatical Islam, describes how the Enlightenment overcame fanatical thinking in the West, shows why most Western attempts to address the problem are doomed to fail and offers strategies by which liberal internationalism can defend itself without becoming a mirror of the tribal forces it is trying to defeat. 16.6MB  54 min long. Show 102 The Truth about Muhammed the Worlds Most Intolerant Religion by Robert Spencer audio excerpt from disk 1. To purchase from Amazon click HERE. Great Audio book. A must have in your library.

From Conservative book club- Straight from Muslim sources- the bloody life and violent teachings of Muhammad, the founder of Islam The Truth About Muhammad by Robert Spencer

As American and European leaders continue to assure us that true Islam is peaceful, and formulate foreign and domestic policy on that basis, it is more important today than ever before for non-Muslims to know exactly what Islams founder, Muhammad, actually did and taught. Now, in The Truth About Muhammad  Founder of the World’s Most Intolerant Religion, Robert Spencer provides a frank and accurate picture of the Muhammad that Muslims around the world revere: a warlord who preached violence, ordered the assassinations of his enemies, and used his “divine revelations? for his personal self-aggrandizement.

Spencer, author of the bestselling Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam (and the Crusades) and four other books on Islam and jihad, here works exclusively from the sources that Muslims themselves revere as most reliable for information about Muhammad. He explains why it matters so much today what Muhammad was like, and traces his tumultuous life in depth: from his first “revelation? from Allah (which filled him with terror that he was demon-possessed) to his deathbed (from which he called down curses upon Jews and Christians).

Spencer details Muhammad’s development from a preacher of hellfire and damnation into a military leader who commanded his followers to carry out surprise raids on his opponents, and who promised his warriors luridly physical delights in Paradise if they were killed in his cause. He shows how Muhammad’s faulty knowledge of Judaism and Christianity has influenced Islamic theology, and colored Muslim relations with Jews and Christians to this day. It’s all here: Muhammad’s multiple marriages (including one to a nine-year-old); his convenient “revelations? justifying his own licentiousness; his joy in the brutal murders of his enemies; and above all, his clear marching orders to his followers to convert non-Muslims to Islam or force them to live as inferiors under Islamic rule.

Spencer also shows how modern-day jihad terrorists frequently invoke Muhammad’s example to justify their bloodlust and exhort their followers to more violence. The true nature of Islam and the prospects for large-scale Islamic reform have important implications for host of issues - notably the prosecution of the war on terror; the democracy project in Iraq and Afghanistan; and immigration and border control. That’s what makes it crucial for policymakers and every citizen who loves freedom to read and ponder The Truth About Muhammad.

Meet the real Muhammad:

Muhammad’s bizarre reaction to his first “revelation?: “I will go to the top of the mountain and throw myself down that I may kill myself?

The heretical Christian who convinced Muhammad he was a prophet - and may have taught him his erroneous views of Christianity

Islamic borrowings from Judaism, Christianity, and Zoroastrianism - and Muhammad’s enraged replies to charges that he borrowed material rather than received actual divine revelations

The “revelation? that allowed Muhammad to marry his beautiful daughter-in-law

The strange incident in Muhammad’s life that makes it virtually impossible to prove rape in Islamic countries today

The real “Satanic Verses? incident (not the Salman Rushdie version): how Muhammad’s attempt to win over his opponents ended with his saying he had been inspired not by God, but by Satan

How the Qurans teaching on warfare against unbelievers developed - with constant war to establish the hegemony of Islamic law as the last stage

The first year of the Muslim calendar: not when Muhammad was born or became a prophet, but when he became a warlord

How Muhammad used the graphic lure of Islamic Paradise to urge his warriors to fight furiously to extend his rule

“Kill every Jew who comes into your power?: why Muhammad became so angry with both Jews and Christians - with disastrous consequences that are still playing out in the world today

The momentous command by Muhammad that led to good being identified with anything that benefited the Muslims, and evil with anything that harmed them—without reference to any larger moral standard

Muhammad’s child bride - and the terrible consequences his marriage to a nine-year-old still has in the Islamic world

“This is the caravan of the Quraysh possessing wealth. It is likely that Allah may give it to you as booty?: how Muhammad gave divine sanction to the Muslims’ bloody raids

“War is deceit?: the permission Muhammad gave his followers to lie in order to gain an advantage over their enemies

How Muhammad broke the principal treaty he entered into, again setting a pattern for Muslim states thereafter

Muhammad’s commands to his followers to wage perpetual war against non-Muslims, including Jews and Christians

Muhammad on women’s rights   women “are prisoners with you having no control of their persons?

“If justice is not to be found with me then where will you find it?? Why Muhammad still stands for Muslims as the supreme model for human behavior

“I will expel the Jews and Christians from the Arabian Peninsula, and will not leave any but Muslims? - and other statements by Muhammad that contemporary jihadists take very seriously

Islamic tolerance? The onerous tax burden and other discriminatory regulations mandated for non-Muslims under Islamic law

How Muhammad ordered the killing of apostates from Islam

The massacre of a Jewish tribe by Muhammad that was invoked by modern-day jihadists at the beginning of Israels July 2006 operations against Hizballah in Lebanon

“Embrace Islam, and your lives and property will be safe?: Muhammad’s threatening letters to the rulers of the lands around Arabia

Muhammad’s frequent avowals that the Muslims would overcome the empires bordering on Arabia and one day stand as masters of the world

“I have been made victorious with terror? - and other statements of Muhammad on his deathbed

Six steps that American leaders can and must take in order to protect our nation from Islamic jihad terrorism

Show 98 The Forgotten Man by Amity Schlaes Audio Book excerpt Disk 1 From ACU- Understanding the Great Depression is vitally important. The very government programs and false assumptions that prolonged America’s suffering are still with us today in large measure. This is the truth that you never got in school. The book is a scholarly work, sometimes dry but builds a mounting case against the idiotic and counterproductive policies of Federal intervention. There is no comprehensive list of FDR’s failed policies and programs but spread throughout the 400 pages an indelible image emerges of heavy-handed bureaucracies restraining and hobbling a free market and a free people. Over all it is a fine historical work and the best I’ve seen on the subject of the Great Depression.  Podcast rating 5 out of 10. 74 min  16MB

Show 97 Dennis Prager and Michael Medved talk to historian Stephen Mansfield.. His new book is Ten Tortured Words: How the Founding Fathers Tried to Protect Religion in America . . . and What’s Happened Since. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion. No other sentence has proven more important to America - or has been so dramatically wrenched from its original meaning and context. Today, the first sentence of the First Amendment is used to quash prayer at public events, chisel religious phrases from official buildings, intimidate pastors into keeping silent on political issues, and fire teachers for keeping Bibles on their desks. Now, in Ten Tortured Words: How the Founding Fathers Tried to Protect Religion in America and What’s Happened Since, Stephen Mansfield reveals how the First Amendment to the Constitution written to protect religion from a federal government only has been so manipulated by the Left that its use now contradicts the intention of the Founding Fathers.
Ten Tortured Words combines extensive historical and legal research with interviews of contemporary thinkers and American voices. You’ll learn:

How the First Amendment originally was not understood as a ban on religion in government—in fact, it didn’t even apply to the states

The true context of Thomas Jefferson’s “wall of separation between church and state? metaphor - and how its misuse is contrary to Jefferson’s own beliefs

Why Washington, D.C, residents - including several presidents—attended church services in the Capitol for much of the 19th century

How the Everson v. Board of Education ruling refashioned American religious life into a secularist vision - and the KKK affiliation of the Supreme Court Justice who wrote this majority opinion

The ACLU’s bullying techniques, profiteering through Establishment Clause litigation, how Hollywood funds these bogus cases

The emerging “Religious Left,? and how religious worldviews will play a prominent role in the 2008 elections 12MB 55min.  podcast rating 6 out of 10. Show 93 Audio interview with David Gelernter author of Americanism The fourth great western religion. Dennis Prager interviews him followed by Michael Medved.

What does it mean to “believe? in America? Why do we always speak of our country as having a mission or purpose that is higher than other nations? Modern liberals have invested a great deal in the notion that America was founded as a secular state, with religion relegated to the private sphere. David Gelernter argues that America is not secular at all, but a powerful religious idea—indeed, a religion in its own right. Gelernter argues that what we have come to call “Americanism? is in fact a secular version of Zionism. Not the Zionism of the ancient Hebrews, but that of the Puritan founders who saw themselves as the new children of Israel, creating a new Jerusalem in a new world. Their faith-based ideals of liberty, equality, and democratic governance had a greater influence on the nation’s founders than the Enlightenment. Gelernter traces the development of the American religion from its roots in the Puritan Zionism of seventeenth-century New England to the idealistic fighting faith it has become, a militant creed dedicated to spreading freedom around the world. The central figures in this process were Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, and Woodrow Wilson, who presided over the secularization of the American Zionist idea into the form we now know as Americanism. If America is a religion, it is a religion without a god, and it is a global religion. People who believe in America live all over the world. Its adherents have included oppressed and freedom-loving peoples everywhere—from the patriots of the Greek and Hungarian revolutions to the martyred Chinese dissidents of Tiananmen Square. Gelernter also shows that anti-Americanism, particularly the virulent kind that is found today in Europe, is a reaction against this religious conception of America on the part of those who adhere to a rival religion of pacifism and appeasement. A startlingly original argument about the religious meaning of America and why it is loved—and hated—with so much passion at home and abroad. Show 92  Dennis Prager interviews the author of The Forgotten Man  A new history of the Great Depression by Amity Shlaes. From the book jacket- In The Forgotten Man, Amity Shlaes, one of the nation's most respected economic commentators, offers a reinterpretation of the Great Depression. Shlaes also traces the mounting agony of the New Dealers themselves as they discovered their errors. She shows how both Presidents Hoover and Roosevelt failed to understand the prosperity of the 1920s and heaped massive burdens on the country that more than offset the benefit of New Deal programs. The real question about the Depression, she argues, is not whether

Roosevelt ended it with World War II. It is why the Depression lasted so long. From 1929 to 1940, federal intervention helped to make the Depression great - in part by forgetting the men and women who sought to help one another. Show 87  Mao The Unknown Story disk 1 by Jung Chang and Jon Halliday. This podcast covers the early years as a boy and young man.

Breakdown of a BIG Book: 5 Things You'll Learn from Mao: The Unknown Story

1. Mao became a Communist at the age of 27 for purely pragmatic reasons: a job and income from the Russians.
2. Far from organizing the Long March in 1934, Mao was nearly left behind by his colleagues who could not stand him and had tried to oust him several times. The aim of the March was to link up with Russia to get arms. The Reds survived the March because Chiang Kai-shek let them, in a secret horse-trade for his son and heir, whom Stalin was holding hostage in Russia.
3. Mao grew opium on a large scale.
4. After he conquered China, Mao's over-riding goal was to become a superpower and dominate the world: "Control the Earth," as he put it.
5. Mao caused the greatest famine in history by exporting food to Russia to buy nuclear and arms industries: 38 million people were starved and slave-driven to death in 1958-61. Mao knew exactly what was happening, saying: "half of China may well have to die."

Book Description
A critical biography of the iconic communist revolutionary, and an expose of the liberals who lionize him.Nearly four decades after his death, it’s impossible to avoid the image of Ernesto “Che? Guevara everywhere from T-shirts to cartoons. Liberals consider Che a revolutionary martyr who gave his life to help the poor of Latin America. Time named him one of the one hundred most influential people of the last century. And a major Hollywood movie is about to lionize him to a new generation.
The reality, as we learn from Cuban exile Humberto Fontova, is that Che wasn’t really a gentle soul and a selfless hero. He was a violent Communist who thought nothing of firing a gun into the stomach of a woman six months pregnant whose only crime was that her family opposed him. And he was a hypocrite who lusted after material luxuries while cultivating his image as a man of the people. Fontova reveals that Che openly talked about his desire to use nuclear weapons against New York City. Such was Che’s bloodthirsty hatred that Fontova considers him the godfather of modern terrorism. Exposing the Real Che Guevara is based on scores of interviews with survivors of Che’s atrocities as well as the American CIA agent who interrogated Che just hours before the Bolivian government executed him.
About the Author
Humberto Fontova, who left Cuba in 1961 at age seven, has written for several conservative magazines and is the author of Fidel: Hollywood’s Favorite Tyrant. He has appeared on many radio and television shows and is active in the Cuban American community.
