Show 561 First, Dennis Prager talks to Newt Gingrich, former Speaker of the House, Chairman of American Solutions, and senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. His new book is To Save America: Stopping Obama's Secular-Socialist Machine.

The Left, Gingrich explains, has expanded their power through their control of academia, the elite news media, union leaders, trial lawyers, the bureaucracy, the courts, and lobbyists at the state and federal levels. They share a vision of a secular, socialist
Gingrich explains why "secular-socialist machine" is the only way to describe the Left; exposes the lies that Leftists have told America; explores the secular-socialist machine's health bill disaster and involvement in ACORN's vote fraud; and even details why Big Business and the secular-socialist machine are not enemies, but are actually natural allies. He exposes the Left's immense corruption as well, including the corruption of climate science and corruption at the United Nations.
But that is not all: Gingrich offers a plan to defeat the secular-socialist regime and herald a new era of America prosperity in which small businesses flourish, the entitlement state is dismantled, better healthcare is available at a lower cost (without healthcare fraud), religious liberty is protected, and the education crisis is solved. It's a bold vision for a bold people -- and the need for it is urgent. "The secular-socialist machine," Gingrich argues persuasively, "represents as great a threat to

How the U.S. government traditionally regarded the protection of American lives as its top priority: our primary concern with captured terrorists (or pirates, their old equivalent) was interrogating them and using that information to stop further attacks – but now the secular socialists want to give our enemies the same constitutional protections we afford our own citizens, effectively placing the rights of terrorists ahead of the lives of Americans
The extremist environmental movement: how it asserts that we will soon face global warming-induced environmental catastrophes that can only be avoided by forcing Western capitalist nations, especially America, to adopt devastating energy taxes, ruinous new environmental regulations, and a massive wealth transfer to developing countries (a mantra that has become so popular both among the American Left and abroad that even Osama bin Laden in a recent recording thought he could win converts by blaming the West for global warming) -- but how this narrative fails to recognize that capitalist democracies are among the most environmentally conscious nations in the world

The secular-socialist machine's values: how they differ from traditional American values: while Americans have always respected hard work, entrepreneurship, innovation, and merit-based upward mobility, the Leftist machine rewards its members, punishes "overachievers," kills jobs by over-taxing small businesses, and even exploits your death to tax the savings you hope to pass on to your children and grandchildren
Why the UN tolerates corruption: it's viewed as another way to transfer wealth from developed to developing countries

Show 560 Rendezvous with Destiny: Ronald Reagan and the Campaign That Changed America by Craig Shirley. Michael Medved talks to author.
In his previous, widely praised book, Reagan’s Revolution, Craig Shirley told the story of Ronald Reagan’s insurgent campaign to wrest the GOP nomination from Gerald Ford in 1976. Now, in Rendezvous with Destiny: Ronald Reagan and the Campaign That Changed America, Shirley tells the tale of Reagan’s triumph. By tracing the path from Reagan’s defeat on the convention floor in 1976 to his ultimate victory on election night in 1980, Shirley shows in gripping detail how Reagan’s unshakeable hopefulness and conservative convictions led to a most unlikely presidency. Shirley explores the Gipper’s underreported wilderness years (1976–79) and follows him as Reagan hones his message, assembles his team, and launches his bid for the White House amid the inflation crisis, the Panama Canal fight, and Jimmy Carter’s era of malaise. To write Rendezvous with Destiny Shirley gained unprecedented access to 1980 campaign files and conducted more than two hundred insider interviews. The result is the first comprehensive history of the hard-fought 1980 primaries and crucial general election campaign. Reagan’s quest for the presidency was an often lonely one, Shirley reveals. This is the story of how Reagan successfully battled the headwinds of the national media, the Republican Party establishment, and even his own campaign team to become one of America’s greatest chief executives.

by Lee Harris. Michael Medved talks to author. May 11, 2010
Book synopsis- Many were surprised by the escalating incidents that began right after Barack Obama's election, such as tea parties, guns toted to town hall meetings, rumors of socialism, and death panels. But Lee Harris knew this was coming. Harris has long been reflecting on freedom and what it really means. In this new book, he explains that the outrage we're witnessing is born of the age-old fear—as old as the nation itself—that someone will take away our freedom. It is this fear that sparked the current populist revolt, led by people like Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin who claim that Obama's push for reform is simply the intellectual elite's most recent power-grab. Here, Harris shows that in reality, this ongoing debate is good and necessary. Throughout our history, Americans have challenged the definition of liberty and this has allowed us to progress as a society. Harris argues that we must listen carefully to this new populist uprising and take it seriously if we are to defend our founding principles and achieve true freedom for all.

Show 555 The World Turned Upside Down: The Global
Synopsis of book- In what we tell ourselves is an age of reason, we are behaving increasingly irrationally. An astonishing number of people subscribe to celebrity endorsed cults, Mayan armageddon prophecies, scientism, and other varieties of new age, anti-enlightenment philosophies. Millions more advance popular conspiracy theories: AIDS was created in a CIA laboratory, Princess Diana was assassinated, and the 9/11 attacks were an inside job.
In The World Turned Upside Down, Melanie Phillips explains that the basic cause of this explosion of irrationality is the slow but steady marginalization of religion. We tell ourselves that faith and reason are incompatible, but the opposite is the case. It was Christianity and the Hebrew Bible, Phillips asserts, that gave us our concepts of reason, progress, and an orderly world on which science and modernity are based.
Without its religious traditions, the West has drifted into mass derangement where truth and lies, right and wrong, victim and aggressor are all turned upside down. Scientists skeptical of global warming are hounded from their posts,
Worst of all, asserts Phillips, this abandonment of rationality leaves the West vulnerable to its legitimate threats. Faced with the very real challenges of spiraling demographics and violent, confrontational Islamism, the West is no longer willing or able to defend the modernity and rationalism that it once brought into being.
Biography- Melanie Phillips is an award-winning columnist for

Why do some things go viral? Why is it that an activist audience now exists? Was the 2009 Stimulus Package actually proof of systematic failure? What’s next for this talented creative director? Show 542 Economic Facts and Fallacies by Thomas Sowell. Disk 1. 76 minutes
Synopsis- From one of America’s most distinguished economists, a short, brilliant, and revelatory book: the fundamental ideas people most commonly get wrong about economics, and how to think about the subject better.
Biography- Thomas Sowell has taught economics at a number of colleges and universities, including Cornell, University of California Los Angeles, and Amherst. He has published both scholarly and popular articles and books on economics, and is currently a scholar in residence at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University.
Publishers Weekly- The heart of the matter for Thomas Sowell (Basic Economics) is to ask, "What are the facts?" In his latest book, economist Sowell examines numerous misconceptions about life and economics. Sowell writes like an exacting scholar, but his arguments, which rely on economic analyses primarily, may suffer from oversimplification. Sowell argues that zoning restrictions and rent-control policies hurt those whom they're meant to help; intones that women earn less than men because they are far less likely than men to choose occupations that require very long hours; believes tenure helps neither students nor professors; demonstrates that even the poor have successfully moved up economically; tackles fallacies about race in America; and aims to convince that "there is nothing baffling or morally wrong about the fact that different nations have different per capita incomes." He falters in his chapter on the academy, when he becomes an advocate rather than an observer, and oddly neglects the individual choice available to students. Sowell's purpose is to teach readers to "examine [their] beliefs more closely and more analytically," and the conclusions he draws are certain to inspire rigorous debate. This readable volume is a useful primer exposing how economics relates to the social issues that affect our country. (Jan.)

Show The New Vichy Syndrome: Why European Intellectuals Surrender to Barbarism. Prager talkes to author Audio MP3
Show Dennis Prager talks to one of his favorite thinkers, Theodore Dalrymple, best selling author and contributing editor to City Journal. His new book is The New Vichy Syndrome: Why European Intellectuals Surrender to Barbarism
Product Description
Theodore Dalrymple explains how European intelligentsia turned on Western civilisation and paved the way for hedonism and Islamism to run roughshod over a once proud European culture. Western Europe is in a strangely neurotic condition of being smug and terrified at the same time. On the one hand, Europeans believe they have at last created an ideal social and political system in which man can live comfortably. In many ways, things have never been better on the old continent. On the other hand, there is growing anxiety that Europe is quickly falling behind in an aggressive, globalized world. Europe is at the forefront of nothing, its demographics are rapidly transforming in unsettling ways, and the ancient threat of barbarian invasion has resurfaced in a fresh manifestation. In "The New Vichy Syndrome", Theodore Dalrymple traces this malaise back to the great conflicts of the last century and their devastating effects upon the European psyche. From issues of religion, class, colonialism, and nationalism, Europeans hold a 'miserablist' view of their history, one that alternates between indifference and outright contempt of the past. Today's Europeans no longer believe in anything but personal economic security, an increased standard of living, shorter working hours, and long vacations in exotic locales. The result, Dairymple asserts, is an unwillingness to preserve European achievements and the dismantling of western culture by Europeans themselves. As vapid hedonism and aggressive Islamism fill this cultural void, Europeans have no one else to blame for their plight.
About the Author
Theodore Dalrymple is a former psychiatrist and prison doctor. He writes a column for The Spectator of London, contributes frequently to the Daily Telegraph, and is a contributing editor of the Manhattan Institute's City Journal. He lives in France.

Show 540 Great Powers: America and the World after Bush by Thomas P.M. Barnett. Michael Medved talks to author.
From publisher- Synopsis -The author of the groundbreaking New York Times bestseller The Pentagon's New Map brings us a remarkable analysis of the post-Bush world, and America's leadership role in it.
In civilian and military circles alike, The Pentagon's New Map became one of the most talked about books of 2004. "A combination of Tom Friedman on globalization and Carl von Clausewitz on war, [it is] the red-hot book among the nation's admirals and generals," wrote David Ignatius in The Washington Post. Barnett's second book, Blueprint for Action, demonstrated how to put the first book's principles to work. Now, in Great Powers, Barnett delivers his most sweeping— and important—book of all.
For eight years, the current administration has done much to disconnect or alienate America from the world, but the world has certainly not been standing still. Now, with a chance to start over, what do we do? Where's the world going now, and how do we not only rejoin it but become a leader again in what has become the most profound reordering of the globe since the end of World War II?
In Great Powers, Barnett offers a tour de force analysis of the grand realignments that are both already here and coming up fast in the spheres of economics, diplomacy, defense, technology, security, the environment, and much more. The "great powers" are no longer just the world's major nation-states but the powerful forces, past, present, and future, moving with us and past us like a freight train. It is not a simple matter of a course correction but of a complete recalibration, and the opportunities it presents are far greater than the perils. Barnettgives us a fundamental understanding of both, showing us not only how the world is now but how it will be.
There are those writing now who say America is in decline . . . and we just have to deal with it. Barnett says no. Globalization as it exists today was built by America—and now it's time for America to shape and redefine what comes next. Great Powers shows us how. Bibliography.

In An American Amnesia, respected political commentator Bruce Herschensohn re-examines the incredible actions taken by the 94th Congress and by many American citizens which forced South Vietnam's surrender, an event that brought about immense tragedy for Southeast Asians and haunts our political landscape to this day. Drawing on notes, speeches, and writings from his own experiences in Southeast Asia, as well as in the United States Information Agency and in the White House, Herschensohn fills in important facts in that period of history and warns against the danger of succumbing to a similar voluntary amnesia in the future.
