Show 1095 It’s a Girl  - Documentary Film. Gendercide

To watch this free documentary visit -

http://youtu.be/Z0d97v7mjsE

It's a Girl Documentary In India, China and many other parts of the world today, girls are killed, aborted and abandoned simply because they are girls. The United Nations estimates as many as 200 million girls(1) are missing in the world today because of this so-called “gendercide”.

Girls who survive infancy are often subject to neglect, and many grow up to face extreme violence and even death at the hands of their own husbands or other family members.

The war against girls is rooted in centuries-old tradition and sustained by deeply ingrained cultural dynamics which, in combination with government policies, accelerate the elimination of girls.

Shot on location in India and China, It’s a Girl reveals the issue. It asks why this is happening, and why so little is being done to save girls and women.

The film tells the stories of abandoned and trafficked girls, of women who suffer extreme dowry-related violence, of brave mothers fighting to save their daughters’ lives, and of other mothers who would kill for a son. Global experts and grassroots activists put the stories in context and advocate different paths towards change, while collectively lamenting the lack of any truly effective action against this injustice.

Show 1093 National Geographic 2006 Documentary- The World's Most Dangerous Drug (Meth)

To watch this free video visit-

What makes this drug so powerful, addictive, and destructive?

Methamphetamine—meth—is considered one of the hardest drugs to quit. This dangerous drug is ravaging rural communities and spreading its poison to major metropolitan areas and across international borders at an alarming rate. What makes this drug so powerful, addictive, and destructive?

National Geographic correspondent Lisa Ling investigates the meth epidemic to uncover the menace it poses to society and to find out why many are calling meth the world's most dangerous drug.

The World's Most Dangerous Drug (Meth)

The World's Most Dangerous Drug On the streets it is referred to as Crystal, Ice, and Crank. Methamphetamines are viciously addictive and provide the hyperactivity effects of Cocaine along with the delusional effects of LSD. As opposed to getting a short `high' from other drugs, this one will keep users pumped up from 6 to 12 hours and create feelings of paranoia, invulnerability, increased strength, euphoria, and may cause some to react in a violent fashion. As for health concerns, it rots the teeth, suppresses the appetite, induces insomnia, and causes brain damage among other things. Its ease of use makes it even more insidious as it can be swallowed, snorted, injected, or smoked and it is cheap to buy or can be easily manufactured by almost anyone.

Amphetamines can be found in virtually every community from the smallest towns to the largest cities and it radiates through all walks of life from the lowest to highest social classes. It is estimated that there are 26 million worldwide users of this drug. When law enforcement in the United States began to make a concerted effort to eliminate methamphetamine labs, supply then began to come from Mexico using routes already established by Cocaine Cartels.

Thomas Fleming: A Disease in the Public Mind

By the time John Brown’s body hung from the gallows for his crimes at Harper’s Ferry, abolitionists had made him a “holy martyr” in the fight against Southern slave owners. But Northern hatred for Southerners had been long in the making. Northern rage was born in the conviction that New England, whose spokesmen and militia had begun the American Revolution, should have been the leaders of the new nation. Instead, they had been displaced by southerners, “slavocrats,” men like Thomas Jefferson. And Northern envy only exacerbated the South’s greatest fear—race war.

In the sixty years preceding the outbreak of civil war, Northern and Southern fanatics ramped up the struggle over slavery. By the time they had become intractable enemies, only the tragedy of a bloody Civil War could save the Union. In this riveting and character-driven history, one of America’s most respected historians traces the “disease in the public mind” — distortions of reality that seized large numbers of Americans — in the decades-long run-up to the Civil War.

Thomas Fleming is a distinguished historian and author of more than forty books. A frequent guest on PBS, A&E and the History Channel, Fleming has contributed articles to American Heritage, History Today, and many others.

Show 1089 The Up Side of Down: Why Failing Well Is the Key to Success by Megan McArdle

Most new products fail. So do most small businesses. And most of us, if we are honest, have experienced a major setback in our personal or professional lives. So what determines who will bounce back and follow up with a home run? If you want to succeed in business and in life, Megan McArdle argues in this hugely thought-provoking book, you have to learn how to harness the power of failure.

McArdle has been one of our most popular business bloggers for more than a decade, covering the rise and fall of some the world’s top companies and challenging us to think differently about how we live, learn, and work. Drawing on cutting-edge research in science, psychology, economics, and business, and taking insights from turnaround experts, emergency room doctors, venture capitalists, child psychologists, bankruptcy judges, and mountaineers, McArdle argues that America is unique in its willingness to let people and companies fail, but also in its determination to let them pick up after the fall. Failure is how people and businesses learn. So how do you reinvent yourself when you are down?

Dynamic and punchy, McArdle teaches us how to recognize mistakes early to channel setbacks into future success. The Up Side of Down marks the emergence of an author with her thumb on the pulse whose book just might change the way you lead your life.

Show 1087 PJ ORourke talks to Michael Medved about his book TheBaby Boom  How It Got That Way...And It Wasn’t My Fault...And I’ll Never Do It Again

 Overview of the Book-

P.J. O’Rourke began writing funny things in 1960s “underground” newspapers, became editor-in-chief of National Lampoon, then spent 20 years reporting for Rolling Stone and The Atlantic Monthly as the world’s only trouble spot humorist, going to wars, riots, rebellions, and other “Holidays in Hell” in more than 40 countries.

Now O’Rourke, born at the peak of the Baby Boom, turns his keen eye on himself and his 75 million accomplices in making America what it is today. With laughter as an analytical tool, he uses his own very average, if sometimes uproarious experiences as a key to his exceptional age cohort. He writes about the way the post-war generation somehow came of age by never quite growing up and created a better society by turning society upside down.

THE BABY BOOM: How it Got That Way… And It Wasn’t My Fault… And I’ll Never Do It Again is at once a social history, a group memoir of collectively impaired memory, a hilarious attempt to understand his generation’s messy hilarity, and a celebration of the mess the Baby Boom has made.
