Show 163 Michael Medved interviews Dawn Stefanowicz author of Out from Under.  Dawn knows from personal experience that the environment in which a child is raised matters. Her story delivers a provocative, gripping, no-holds-barred account of what it was like to grow up with a homosexual father, his partners, and a chronically ill and passive mother. Candidly, transparently, yet respectfully, Dawn raises the blinds on a home shrouded in secrecy, conflict, confusion, and abuse.

“Out From Under should be read by every legislator, lawyer, physician and mental health professional in a position to lobby for the best interests of children. May society heed Dawn’s courageous testimony and spare other innocents the suffering she and her siblings sustained.
-Michelle A. Cretella, M.D., Board of Directors, American College of Pediatricians, and Chair, Committee on Sexuality, ACP, United States

“Out From Under is a personal account told in an emotional narrative. Stefanowicz tells of the enormous burden that was thrust upon her as a young person, a burden that is too great for any child. This story compels one to ponder the vulnerability of children, human suffering, and the meaning of life itself.
-Senator Anne Cools, Ottawa, Canada

“Dawn Stefanowicz has the courage to write a politically incorrect book. She has the right because she was raised in a homosexual environment and suffered because of it ... there are few books like this one, which argues that such environments are disturbing to children.
-Professor John Patrick, M.D., Augustine College, Ottawa, Canada

“Dawn Stefanowicz writes ... her personal experience, illustrating the unnaturalness of her parenting situation, the hypocrisy of those in her environment who pretended not to see this unnaturalness, and the loneliness of a child who is imprisoned in that situation ... “
-Gerard J.M. van den Aardweg, Ph.D., psychologist specializing in the treatment of homosexuality, and author of many articles and several books, the Netherlands

Dawn Stefanowicz is an author, speaker, media spokesperson, licensed accountant, and home educator. She recently addressed the Canadian Senate on hate crime legislation and appeared on EWTN. She advocates for children and families, pertaining to marriage, parenting, sexuality, and education. Dawn is a resource to family policy, legislative, medical, research, and scholastic organizations. She offers a safe place for adult children from similar households. Dawn has been married for twenty-three years and has two children. Visit www.dawnstefanowicz.com. 8.6MB 37 min.

Show 162 Dennis talks to Stephen Baskerville, professor of government at Patrick Henry College. His new book is Taken into Custody: The War Against Fatherhood, Marriage, and the Family.

‘Taken into Custody’ exposes the greatest and most destructive civil rights abuse in America today. Family courts and Soviet-style bureaucracies trample basic civil liberties, entering homes uninvited and taking away people’s children at will, then throwing the parents into jail without any form of due process, much less a trial. No parent, no child, no family in America is safe. The legal industry does not want you to hear this story. Radical feminists, bar associations, and social work bureaucracies have colluded to suppress this information. Even “pro-familyâ€? groups and civil libertarians look the other way. Yet it is a reality for tens of millions of Americans who are our neighbors. 7.5MB 33minutes Download all of Dennis Pragers shows free at: http://www.townhall.com/talkradio/Show.aspx?RadioShowID=3 Click here to start your free subscription to the American Conservative University newsletter We will send you notice each week about our new shows.  To download this show, right click the direct download file below and select "Save as..." and save the file on your computer. Show 159 Dennis talks to Maureen Faulkner, the widow of Police Officer Danny Faulkner and author of Murdered by Mumia: A Life Sentence of Loss, Pain and Injustice. 34 minutes 7.8MBMaureen Faulkner is the widow of police officer Danny Faulkner, infamously murdered in Philadelphia in 1981 by Wesley Cook, who goes by the name of Mumia Abu-Jamal.  Although Abu-Jamal was convicted and sentenced to death in 1982, in May of 2007 his attorneys appealed his sentence once more (the federal appeals court has not yet ruled).  The defendant has become an international cult figure, who has been supported by such Hollywood activists as Ed Asner, Tim Robbins, and Susan Sarandon.  Faulkner and radio-host Smerconish tell the other side of the story: the widow’s anguish and grief and her attempts to bring closure to her husband’s murder more than 25 years later.  Smerconish (who is also a lawyer) has studied the 5,000 pages of trial transcripts (transcripts Asner readily admits he has never looked at), and outlines and analyzes the issues and evidence.  The case is compelling, and the reader comes away convinced – as is Smerconish – that Abu-Jamal is guilty as charged.  It is a latter-day In Cold Blood.    The authors’ proceeds from the sale of this book are being donated to Justice for Police Officer Daniel Faulkner, Inc. a nonprofit organization which benefits the children of Philadelphia murder victims. Show 158 Should Women Serve in Combat? Mark Taylor talks to author Professor Kingsley Brown of Wayne State University about his new book - Co-ed Combat: The New Evidence That Women Shouldnt Fight the Nation's Wars.
The subject of the hour is a new book by Professor Kingsley Browne of Wayne State University, Co-ed Combat: The New Evidence That Women Shouldn't Fight the Nation's Wars.
Synopsis

A scholar makes a definitive, controversial argument against women in combat

More than 155,000 female troops have been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan since 2002. And more than seventy of those women have died. While that's a small fraction of all American casualties, those deaths exceed the number of military women who died in Korea, Vietnam, and the Gulf War combined.

Clearly, women in combat isn't a theoretical issue anymore. Women now fly combat aircraft and serve on warships. Even the remaining all-male corners of the military are blurring the lines in Iraq. And for many advocates, this trend is considered progress-toward a better, "gender neutral" military.

Co-ed Combat makes the opposite case, based on research in anthropology, biology, history, psychology, sociology, and law, as well as military memoirs. It asks hard questions that challenge the assumptions of feminists.

For instance:
• Has warfare really changed so much as to reverse the almost unanimous history of all-male armed forces?
• Are men and women really equivalent in combat skills, even leaving aside physical strength?
• Do female troops respond to traditional types of motivations?
• Can the bonds of unit cohesion form in a co-ed military unit?
• Can an all-volunteer military afford to reject women?

This is a controversial book, likely to draw a passionate response from both conservatives and liberals.  34 minutes 7.9MB

Show 157 Hugh talks to America’s leading political analyst and historian, Michael Barone, about his new book, Our First Revolution: The Remarkable British Upheaval That Inspired America’s Founding Fathers. 24 min 5.6MB

About this book- The ideals of freedom and individual rights that inspired America’s Founding Fathers did not spring from a vacuum. Along with many other defining principles of our national character, they can be traced directly back to one of the most pivotal events in British history—the late-seventeenth-century uprising known as the Glorious Revolution.
In a work of popular history that stands with recent favorites such as David McCullough’s 1776 and Joseph J. Ellis’s Founding Brothers, Michael Barone brings the story of this unlikely and largely bloodless revolt to American readers and reveals that, without the Glorious Revolution, the American Revolution may never have happened.

Unfolding in 1688–1689, Britain’s Glorious Revolution resulted in the hallmarks of representative government, guaranteed liberties, the foundations of global capitalism, and a foreign policy of opposing aggressive foreign powers. But as Barone shows, there was nothing inevitable about the Glorious Revolution. It sprang from the character of the English people and depended on the talents, audacity, and good luck of two men: William of Orange (later William III of England), who launched history’s last successful cross-channel inva sion, and John Churchill, an ancestor of Winston, who commanded the forces of the deposed James II but crossed over to support William one fateful November night.

The story of the Glorious Revolution is a rich and riveting saga of palace intrigue, loyalty and shocking betrayal, and bold political and military strategizing. With narrative drive, a sure command of historical events, and unforgettable portraits of kings, queens, soldiers, parliamentarians, and a large cast of full-blooded characters, Barone takes an episode that has fallen into unjustified obscurity and restores it to the prominence it deserves. Especially now, as we face enemies who wish to rid the world of the lasting legacies of the Glorious Revolution—democracy, individual rights, and capitalism among them—it is vitally important that we understand the origins of these blessings.
