Show 509 Michael Steele's book- Right Now: A 12-Step Program for Defeating the Obama Agenda,”  Medved talks to Michael Steele

Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele released a book during the week of January 4 without the input of the party's leaders, a move that may be the most recent in a series of missteps for Steele.

Steele"s book, "Right Now: A 12-Step Program for Defeating the Obama Agenda,”

From the Republican National Committee's Michael Steele: A solid, conservative "12-step program" to restore America's glory

Right Now: A 12-Step Program for Defeating The Obama Agenda

by Michael Steele

Now more than ever, the Obama-led Left in America is openly attacking the foundations of the American experiment. They believe that the government is smarter than you are, and entitled to make all your most important life decisions. They believe that real freedom isn't doing what you want to do, but doing what government lets you do. Even worse, they brook no disagreement, and enforce their hegemony through the most influential positions of power in America: the presidency, majorities in the House and Senate, activist judges, the print and broadcast media, and the academic community.

But now Michael Steele, the dynamic and outspoken chairman of the Republican National Committee, is standing up and saying enough is enough. In Right Now: A 12-Step Program for Defeating The Obama Agenda, Steele sets out a bold conservative plan to reclaim America from the socialist Left, and reclaim our freedoms from those who want to control our lives.

The road to restoring the conservative movement, the Republican Party, and the nation, says Steele, begins with admitting our mistakes. The Republican Party hasn't moved too far to the Right, as the conventional wisdom claims, but too far to the Left. It is time, says Steele, for America to part ways with liberal groupthink, hypocrisy, and hero worship, and to return to our founding principle: the protection of individual rights, leading to liberty and justice for all. Liberalism, he points out with refreshing clarity, doesn't work, and conservatives need to distinguish their principles sharply from liberal ones.

Steele points out that Barack Obama's "Reign of Error" is propelled by a single idea that unites his policies: he trusts government more than he trusts the American people. And with Democrats moving against personal freedom in numerous ways, the fundamental American right to dissent from government policies is being threatened -- and must be defended. Steele also explains how and why we must take back the economy, pointing out that "with the Democratic Congress acting as little more than a rubber stamp for President Obama's most expensive wishes, the liberals' brief time in office has already produced trillions of dollars in new debt, rising unemployment, the specter of inflation and a weakening dollar, and a new raft of suffocating regulations on businesses." For that and other reasons, says Steele, "in the best spirit of President Reagan, it's time to saddle up and ride. Our country needs us."

Americans are still searching for new ideas, Steele maintains, and this represents an opportunity for conservatives to present fresh proposals and win the confidence of a new generation of voters. "Our principles are right," says Michael Steele, "but we have not always talked about them effectively." Right Now is a sound conservative solution to that problem.

Restoring conservatism, Republicanism -- and America:

How Republicans have a duty to remind all Americans of the price paid in blood so we could all claim the undeniable truth that all men are created equal, and that each has the inalienable right to conduct his or her own life as he or she sees fit -- not on condition of government approval

How liberals' increasing intolerance reflects a disturbing hubris in the liberal mindset

Unsolicited advice for President Obama: he won't bring people to liberty by apologizing for the freest nation on earth and making nice with fascists and tyrants

How Obama has overstepped the bounds of responsible governance and basic accountability -- and how his promises of bipartisanship have been exposed as empty rhetoric papering over the same old liberal, big- government agenda

The two most valuable preconditions to advancing any legislative agenda

How modern liberals come up with so many policies that inflict so many bad things on so many good people -- the flawed principle of liberalism from which their dangerous policies come

The simple principle on national security issues that separates Republicans from most Democrats

How, after spending years undermining public confidence in our election system, Democrats have tried to game that very system by securing behind-the-scenes jobs for thousands of unscrupulous leftwing activists in conducting the 2010 U.S. Census

Why the liberal vision of America as an acid stew of bigotry, historic offense, and unchecked individualism is simply bizarre

How Democratic congressmen, senators, and even presidents proclaim the virtues of public education and the evils of vouchers and private schools -- but when the public schools are a wreck, they're the first ones to jump ship

Why it's long past time for liberals to stop whining about how Republicans ran the federal government under President Bush

How national security should not be a game for scoring political points, but should instead reflect a common purpose and understanding of America's exceptional role in an increasingly dangerous and unfriendly world

Revealed: the dirty little secret of why liberals breezily dismiss the threat of al-Qaeda, Iran, and other enemies, and focus all their attacks on Republicans

How a government big enough to give you everything you want is strong enough to take everything you have

"Michael Steel's book is a prescription for not only returning the Republican Party to power -- it's an action plan for bringing the party of Lincoln back to the conservative principles upon which both it and the nation were founded. It's a must-read for everyone who believes that "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" is more than an antiquated catchphrase in a historical document. -- MARK R. LEVIN, New York Times bestselling author of Liberty and Tyranny: A Conservative Manifesto

"In the face of exploding deficits, an attempt to nationalize healthcare, and the erosion of the values that made America great, Michael Steele is taking a stand. Upon witnessing the suffering of the United States and the Republican Party when it abandons its core conservative principles, Steele sounds a long-overdue battle cry for a fresh, energetic conservatism to fight Obama's socialist vision." -- SEAN HANNITY

With wit and insight, passion and judgment, Michael Steele points the way to a GOP comeback." -- WILLIAM J. BENNETT, host of nationally syndicated radio show Morning in America and former Secretary of Education under President Reagan
